This session will delve into how The Green Box has been working on empowerment of youth through its various programs; to facilitate them in taking climate action and ingraining the values of environmental stewardship and sustainability. Especially conversing around the need of targeted knowledge dissemination, skill development and engagement of youth in addressing the climate crisis.

Fatimah Mahmood
Show bio +Fatimah Mahmood is an Environmental Specialist from Islamabad, Pakistan; who fervently supports the need for sustainability, and integration of environmental protection in all areas of development. A researcher and writer at heart, she believes that every problem can be solved through a positive and solution-oriented lens. Currently, she is the Program Manager at The Green Box, working on themes of climate change, sustainable development, and the environment. Besides which, as a Local Pathways Fellow (for SDSN-Youth), she is amidst the development of a project addressing SDG 11.6 (air quality) in her city; through the creation of a targeted education and training program.

Penelope Milner
Show bio +Penelope is a Geography BA with Quantitative Methods student at the University of Leeds. She is also a member of the steering group for the Green Futures Course at the Climate Challenge College in Todmorden. The course is focused on providing people over the age of 16 with knowledge of agroecology and renewable energies as well as practical skills including natural building and repairing and reusing materials to pursue a green career.
She is also the founding President of Leeds Rotaract Club, which was recently established in October 2021. Rotaract is open to anyone aged 18-30 with a passion for creating a positive difference in the community, volunteering, and fundraising. Two key priorities for her are ensuring the protection of the natural environment and encouraging sustainability and biodiversity.
